Adventures as Miss Saigon

Archive for May 2011

After 8 months of living abroad, exploring 6 countries, almost 8,000 pictures, over 8,200 blog hits, countless amazing memories and experiences, and learning so many things about myself along this journey, I am now focusing on settling into my Canadian life and figuring out what I want my future to look like.

I’m struggling to find appropriate words to end all of this…I had plans to write more about Australia, maybe write something about my journey of self discovery, what it’s like being back at home and where I envision my life heading now. But I think the time has come for my blog and I to go separate ways.

In a nutshell, I’m home and loving every minute of it. Of course I miss my friends in Vietnam, my little monkey – J, the food, the culture, the lifestyle, and the traveling, but I’m so happy to be home. It’s been great spending time with friends, family and other significant people here – my heart is feeling full! I’m excited for whatever comes my way next.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, to everyone who has welcomed me home with open arms. None of this would have been possible without you.

So, until my next adventure, whatever that may be and wherever it may take me…

Hẹn gặp lại!!

Just got this email from my mom…

“awake since 4am…no I am not excited.”

Don’t worry momma! I won’t be sleeping much tonight either!!!!

I have 14 hours left before I check in for my flight back to Canada, 3 hours at the airport then 21 hours in transit!

I’ve spent the day trying to pack 8 months worth of my life into 2 suitcases, getting my last Vietnamese pedi and my last cheap hair cut, colour and facial. I’m now hanging out at at cafe and will be meeting Wendy shortly for sushi dinner. I can’t believe it’s all coming to an end……

But I’m so excited to be heading home! Catching up with everyone over the next two weeks before I head back to work will be so amazing!

My last full day in Australia was spent with my cousin walking from the infamous Bondi beach to Clovelly along the coast. It was a beautiful day and we spent the afternoon walking, chatting and watching surfers.

I have so much to blog about and about 1300 pictures to sort through when I get back to Canada, so stay tuned!

Sharks!

Now in the shark tunnels at Sydney aquarium…unreal!

The day keeps getting better…am currently mesmorized in the underwater tunnels watching sharks, fish, stingrays and dugongs swim overhead…unreal!

I’m just leaving Featherdale Wildlife Park (just outside of Sydney) and had another fabulous morning playing with roos, wallabies and koalas. In Sydney, you can’t cuddle the koalas, but I got to pet a few and feed lots of roos and wallabies. So cute!

This morning Chris, a Canadian I met last night at the hostel, and I got up early and headed to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to cuddle those cute koalas! Check out my echidna encounter picture from yesterday and my koala cuddle picture from today! Both aren’t great quality, as they’re iPhone pics of the real pics, but you get the idea… 🙂
